The Bears will play at least their first six games without Pernell McPhee.

The outside linebacker, who hasn’t participated since the end of last season because of lingering knee concerns, was placed on the physically unable to perform list when the Bears cut their roster down to 53 on Saturday. He’s ineligible to return to practice or games until after the Bears’ six weeks.

McPhee had arthroscopic knee surgery in the offseason, and the Bears were encouraged by his weight loss.

Willie Young and Lamarr Houston will  continue to start at outside linebacker.

Pernell McPhee will start the season on the PUP list. (AP)
